As you enter the grounds of Ryerson Woods,
you’ll drive under a canopy of millions of green leaves, past
wild flowers and wildlife and lead your team into the timeless
spirit of Brushwood, a Greek revival home reconfigured to host
dynamic small-medium sized groups. Located on land once owned by members of the
Ryerson Steel family, and listed on the National Register of
Historic Places, Brushwood is an architectural treasure.
Inspired by a 1840s Greek Revival home in Morengo, Illinois,
Brushwood was lovingly constructed in 1942 with salvaged
materials and period details to closely mirror the historic
original. The stately home with a columned portico was
designed by Ambrose Cramer, a devotee of the great estate
architect, David Adler. Cramer always described this
project for the Ryerson family as his best. Brushwood at Ryerson Woods has ample parking and is handicapped accessible. Brushwood is an intimate, elegant home in a spectacular natural setting and features a lovely back garden area with porches and native plantings. Corporate rental fees vary by time and date and are subject to change. Ideal capacity is under 50, but larger groups may be accomodated, depending upon type of event. Brushwood

Some pathways through the surrounding woods follow favorite trails of the local Pottawatomie Indians, intersecting at the Des Plaines River where the gravel bottom provided a secure crossing.
The Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area, known informally as Ryerson Woods, is a 556 acre preserve located near Deerfield, Illinois. One of the gems of the Illinois Nature Preserve system, Ryerson Woods is home to many rare species, including the stunning purple-fringed orchid, the striking blue-spotted salamander, the quick wood frog, the vocal red shouldered hawk, the secretive veery (bird) and the shy and non-aggressive eastern massasauga rattlesnake. |
